First Circuits

Kids build their first working circuits with Snap Circuits Jr. — lighting an LED, spinning a motor, closing a switch — and start naming how electricity moves.

Kit: Snap Circuits Jr.

First Circuits

Juniors get their hands on real snap-together components from day one. No soldering, no risk — just fast, visible cause and effect that keeps 6–8 year-olds hooked while they learn how electricity actually behaves.

Design

Sketch a simple idea — a light, a fan, an alarm — before touching a single piece.

Build

Snap the circuit together and identify each component by name and job.

Code

Unplugged logic games introduce sequencing and if/then thinking.

By the end of the term

A child who can...

  • Name and identify 10+ circuit components
  • Build a working circuit from a simple diagram
  • Explain what a switch, LED, and motor each do
  • Describe a project idea before building it

Circuits to Code

Explorers step up to real measurement and real programming. They learn why a circuit behaves the way it does, then write the block-based code that controls it — the on-ramp to future AI-literacy and 3D-modeling tracks.

Design

Plan multi-component builds, factoring in voltage, resistance, and logic flow.

Build

Apply Ohm's law and take real multimeter readings while assembling advanced circuits.

Code

Use block-based programming and Boolean logic to control the build in real time.

By the end of the term

A child who can...

  • Take and interpret a multimeter reading
  • Apply Ohm's law to size a simple circuit
  • Write block-based code to control hardware
  • Complete an independent build from concept to demo
Kit: Scratch (beginner blocks)

First Scratch Projects

Juniors open Scratch and start telling stories with it — choosing characters, making them move, talk, and react. No syntax to memorize — just drag, snap, and watch it run, building an intuitive feel for how programs are built from small pieces.

Design

Storyboard a simple animation or game idea before opening Scratch.

Build

Choose sprites and backdrops and arrange them on the stage.

Code

Snap together motion, sound, and look blocks to bring the story to life.

By the end of the term

A child who can...

  • Recognize and use 10+ basic Scratch blocks
  • Build a simple animated story with multiple sprites
  • Sequence actions correctly, step by step
  • Explain what a "block" and a "sprite" are
Kit: Scratch (advanced blocks)

From Blocks to Logic

Explorers move from simple animations to real interactive games. They plan game rules before coding, then use loops, variables, and conditionals in Scratch to bring scoring, win/lose states, and player controls to life.

Design

Plan a game concept with rules, scoring, and win/lose conditions.

Build

Structure the project with multiple sprites, backdrops, and custom blocks.

Code

Apply loops, variables, and conditional logic to create real gameplay.

By the end of the term

A child who can...

  • Use variables to track score or lives
  • Apply loops and if/else logic in a project
  • Build a playable game from concept to demo
  • Debug and improve their own code

Why Design → Build → Code

Design

Before any wire is snapped into place, a child has to describe what they're trying to make and why. This is the habit we protect most: think before you build. It's the same discipline behind every engineering discipline, just introduced at age six instead of twenty-six.

Build

Hands-on assembly with real components — Snap Circuits, and later Arduino-compatible modules — turns an abstract idea into something that lights up, spins, or beeps. Mistakes here are cheap and instructive, which is exactly the point.

Code

Once a build works physically, code gives it behavior. Starting with unplugged logic for our youngest students and moving to block-based programming for Explorers, this is where a circuit becomes a system a child actually controls.

National alignment

A local answer to Vision 2030

Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 calls for a generation fluent in technical skills, not just technology consumption. TechNest is one small, hands-on piece of that: a place where Eastern Province kids build the instincts that later become engineering, robotics, and programming careers.
